Science of Generosity RFP Competition
The letter of inquiry submission period for requesting first wave funding to propose research on generosity in the human and social sciences has now ended. From letters we received by the postmark deadline date of April 1, 2009, a panel of expert judges has completed their evaluation and selection of those LOIs that are moving forward for full proposal development. Four to eight award winners in this initial funding wave will be announced in November 2009. RFP update email notices were sent the week of June 1, 2009 to all principal investigators (PIs) who submitted LOIs in this initial funding competition. Please note, beginning September 1, 2009, letters of inquiry will again be accepted for review and full proposal consideration for our second wave of funding. A total of $3 million will be awarded during these two competitions.
The University of Notre Dame request for proposals (RFP) initiative on the Science of Generosity is supported with funding from the John Templeton Foundation. The aim of this initiative is to stimulate scientific research on the practice of generosity in human life and society. We are particularly interested in better understanding three key aspects of generosity:
- The sources, origins, and causes of generosity
- The variety of manifestations and expressions of generosity
- The consequences of generosity for both the givers and receivers involved.
